چکیده

Abstract We use magnetic field measurements by the Juno spacecraft to catalog and investigate interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) beyond 1 au. During its cruise phase, spent about 5 yr in solar wind between 2011 September 2016 June, providing of (IMF) 5.4 therefore presents most recent opportunity for a statistical analysis ICME properties au since Ulysses mission (1990–2009). Our includes 80 such events, 32 which contain associated flux-rope-like structures. find that dependency mean strength flux ropes decreases with heliocentric distance as r ?1.24±0.43 au, good agreement previous relationships calculated using catalogs at Ulysses. combine HELCATS create data set ICMEs covering 0.3–5.4 Using linear regression model fit combined on double-logarithmic plot, we there is clear difference global expansion rates observed shorter distances those farther out The cataloged present basis future multispacecraft studies evolution inner heliosphere, beyond.

The Composition of Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections

Interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) associated plasma can exhibit signatures in elemental, ionic and isotopic composition. These signatures occur in less than 50% of all ICMEs, but are very indicative of ICME plasma. We review these compositional anomalies and briefly discuss a physical scenario that could be responsible for these anoma-

Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections Observed in the Heliosphere: 1. Review of Theory

With the recent advancements in interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) imaging it is necessary to understand how heliospheric images may be interpreted, particularly at large elongation angles. Of crucial importance is how the current methods used for coronal mass ejection measurement in coronagraph images must be changed to account for the large elongations involved in the heliosphere. In...

Interplanetary coronal mass ejections that are undetected by solar coronagraphs

[1] From February 2003 to September 2005 the Solar Mass Ejection Imager on the Coriolis spacecraft detected 207 interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICME) in the inner heliosphere. We have examined the data from the Large Angle Spectroscopic Coronagraph (LASCO) on the SOHO spacecraft for evidence of coronal transient activity that might have been the solar progenitor of the Solar Mass Ejectio...

The True Dimensions of Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections

The majority of observations of Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections (ICMEs) are made with a single spacecraft and their properties inferred from a fit to a cylindrically symmetric model. This process produces a single dimension for a magnetic cloud, its radial thickness. If the radius of curvature of an ICME were equal to its half thickness, the shock front driven by the ICME would be at a di...
